When the conversation turns to addiction recovery, much attention goes to the individual with addiction. When someone you love is struggling with addiction, it can feel like your whole life starts to revolve around their pain. You may find yourself lying awake at night, wondering what you could have done differently. You might feel angry one moment, heartbroken the next and too exhausted to talk about it at all.
At Families Out Loud, we want you to know something simple but powerful: you deserve support, too.
Understanding the impact on families
Addiction doesn’t happen in isolation. It ripples through families changing relationships, routines, and even how we see ourselves. Many people supporting a loved one through addiction describe feeling lost, anxious, or invisible. They put their own wellbeing aside to keep things afloat, often without realising the toll it takes.
That’s where we come in.
Families Out Loud is a Wiltshire-based charity offering emotional and practical support to families affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use. We’re not a service for people in active addiction. We’re here for you, the family member, the friend, the person holding everything together in the background.
How we help
We offer a range of services designed to meet people where they are:
💬 One-to-one counselling – confidential, compassionate sessions to help you process emotions and rebuild resilience.
🤝 Peer support groups – safe spaces where you can talk to others who truly understand what you’re going through.
🌱 Practical guidance – from setting boundaries to learning how to cope when relapse happens.
Our support is open to anyone in Wiltshire affected by another person’s addiction. Whether you’re a parent, sibling, partner, or teen, you don’t have to face this alone.
Breaking the silence
For many families, the hardest step is asking for help. Shame and stigma can keep people isolated, believing they need to “handle it” on their own. But reaching out isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s an act of courage.
Every week, we interact with people who come to us feeling hopeless, and leave feeling lighter, stronger, and more in control. Recovery for families begins with one simple step: talking about it.
Take the first step today
If you’re ready to stop struggling in silence, Families Out Loud is here. You don’t have to fix your loved one’s addiction to start feeling better yourself. You deserve understanding, healing, and support and that’s exactly what we offer.
