Help shape a growing counselling service supporting families affected by addiction
Families affected by a loved one’s drug or alcohol use are often the unseen part of the story. At Families Out Loud, we exist to change that — providing safe, non-judgemental spaces where people can speak openly, feel understood, and begin to heal.
We’re now looking for a Service Manager to play a central role in how that support is delivered and developed. This is an opportunity to combine clinical experience, service leadership, and safeguarding responsibility in a small but ambitious charity where your work will have a direct and visible impact.
About us
Families Out Loud is a Wiltshire-based charity supporting families and carers affected by addiction. Our work is grounded in compassion, lived experience, and a belief that no one should have to navigate these challenges alone.
As demand for our services grows, we are strengthening our delivery model, systems, and governance to ensure our support remains safe, consistent, and sustainable.
The role
This is a hands-on Service Manager role combining service delivery, team management, and clinical oversight.
You’ll work closely with the Board of Trustees to:
-
oversee the day-to-day running of our counselling and support services
-
manage and support a team of freelance counsellors
-
ensure safeguarding and clinical standards are consistently met
-
maintain a small client caseload
This role would suit someone who enjoys balancing people, process, and purpose, and is comfortable working in a small, values-led charity environment.
Key responsibilities
-
Manage the full client journey, from initial enquiry through to end of support
-
Lead and support a team of freelance counsellors (supervision coordination, oversight, well being awareness)
-
Maintain a small client caseload (as agreed with Trustees)
-
Ensure safeguarding concerns are managed appropriately and in line with policy
-
Oversee use of practice management systems (clinical and administrative)
-
Ensure accurate, secure, and GDPR-compliant record keeping
-
Produce a monthly service report (activity, KPIs, emerging themes)
-
Review and authorise counsellor timesheets and invoices
-
Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the service
What we’re looking for
-
Minimum 5 years’ counselling experience
-
Minimum 2 years’ management, supervisory, or service leadership experience
-
BACP registered (or equivalent professional body)
-
Strong understanding of safeguarding and working with vulnerable individuals/families
-
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trust quickly
-
Strong organisation and time management skills
-
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a flexible, part-time role
-
Understanding of the impact of addiction on families and carers
Why join us?
-
Be part of a purpose-driven charity making a tangible difference
-
Shape and influence how services are delivered as the organisation grows
-
Flexible, part-time, largely remote working
-
Work closely with a committed and supportive Board of Trustees
-
Opportunity to combine clinical practice with leadership and service development
